La Jolla is the most famous neighborhood in San Diego. Home to the
University of California, San Diego (UCSD), La Jolla is part university town,
part artist and part tourist.
Rising abruptly from the coast, La Jolla has many large expensive
view homes. That's not the whole town, though. Along with some apartments, there
are many modest homes that are well maintained, but have no view.
The center of town is by the coast and is full of coffee shops,
galleries, antique shops, boutiques and restaurants. La Jolla even has a branch
of the Hard Rock Cafe. There's also a mall off Interstate 5.
LA JOLLA RECREATION
Along with the beach promenade, La Jolla has four large parks
inland, an underwater park, museums, playhouse, YMCA and the La Jolla Festival
of Arts.
LA JOLLA BUSINESS
Business is dominated by the University and tourism. Along La
Jolla Village Drive are a series of office-research buildings with a variety of
companies, many spun-off from research at the University.
